King of Wall Street by Louisa Bay

Why you should read it: A fun, sweet, feel good read with a full cast of lovable characters!

“I want to be the man who deserves you. The man who will do anything for the woman he loves.”

What a perfect weekend read! I’m super impressed with Ms. Bay and her ability to write such enjoyable novels that are both lighthearted yet include serious aspects of real life. This novel is about Max King, the King of Wall Street, and his company’s new junior researcher, Harper Jayne. Harper has studied Max and his company throughout graduate school and has come to not only idolize Max but become a bit obsessed with becoming part of his firm. When she finally gets her wish, she comes to find that Max is an utter asshole. And for some reason, she seems to be the main focus of his asshole-y attentions. Little does Harper know that Max is doing all he can to keep his naughty hands to himself.

This girl could end me. I’d suspected it the moment I saw her. Known it the moment I’d seen her work. Talented. Beautiful. Sharp. Sexy. I wanted it all.

The back and forth between Harper and Max is funny and witty. I loved that they always had to one up each other. And even though Max is Harper’s boss, she never loses her spunk to sabotage him somehow, like getting pickles on his sandwich when he specifically asks for no pickles. It’s really the little things in life that counts 😉 Their ability to annoy each other knows no bounds and it’s absolutely fabulous.

Arrogant men should be illegal. Or sent to an island without any women on it to die of sexual frustration.

The introduction of Max’s family, especially his daughter Amanda, adds a beautiful touch and depth to the story. We get to see a different side of Max, his full potential I’d like to think, a loving and nurturing side that could be possible with the addition of the right woman. Harper’s best friend, Grace, is literally the bestest friend a girl could hope to have. Not only is she willing to stand by Harper’s side no matter what, she’s also willing to tell Harper the honest truth. Behind every great man is a great woman (or something like that), and behind Harper there is Grace.

“Once is never enough with you. I need you all the time, forever.”

There’s an unanswered question about Harper’s job situation that keeps nagging at me and I’m surprised at Harper and her dad’s relationship at the end but other than that, the book was a great read!
