Why you should read it: Emotional romance with two imperfect people each fighting their own demons to reach the ultimate high.
The start of this book really threw me for a loop. I knew the story dealt with addiction but the way Ms. McLaughlin wrote the beginning and Brodhi’s cocaine addiction was brilliant. It was disturbing and made my skin crawl yet the whole experience felt very real and very raw.
Bodhi’s path to rehab and journey thereafter with Kimberly became so much more important to me because I didn’t want him to go back to the horrible mental place he was in before. Especially after he realized his mistake and truly wanted to redefine himself in order to live a cleaner life.
Throughout the book, there was a mixture of ups and downs. Bodhi’s journey was dogged with two steps forward and one step back, and I just kept waiting for the ultimate shoe to drop. And then BAM! I won’t go into detail in case I give something away ^_-
Emotionally, I was on pins and needles though now that I’ve finished the book I can really appreciate the rollercoaster. I feel like I’ve been hazed and now have the right to the rest of the band member’s stories and their happily ever afters!
